Five on Friday

Well, it's been a week.  I'm sorry I've been pretty absent from blogland this week, I had sinus infection that wouldn't budge, and that mixed with all of the craziness below really kept me on my toes.  I promise, after the honeymoon next week, I will be back in full force.  That doesn't mean you shouldn't stop by here, though, (please do, pretty please) I have a few fun things planned, even a giveaway, while I'm away!

1 /// Well first of all, work kicked my butt my week: we opened registration for summer programs on Monday, had Lowcountry Giving Day and raised tons of money for our organization on Tuesday (shout-out to my amazing friend Heather for making a donation!!), and I had assessments with my kids looking to certify to the next level of programming each afternoon.

2 /// We had a death in the family this week, our fish Alpha.  I know you're rolling your eyes right now, but we've had that betta for a year and a half, and he even survived a 15-hour moving truck ride down from Connecticut to South Carolina last August.  He was seriously the coolest (and fattest) fish, and would make this loud noise with his fin by tapping the side the side of the bowl when he was hungry.

3 /// With our sinus infections and all, we haven't been very hungry this week, so on Tuesday night, Mike decided that it was "ice cream for dinner" night, and we went to Ye Olde Fashioned  Yeah, I got the cool husband.

4 /// We started up kickball again on Wednesday!  Eight or so of our old team stuck around to play again, and Erika and her husband even joined our team, too.  We won our first game 7-1, and I'm really excited for this season!

5 /// After kickball on Wednesday, we headed down to Jacksonville to go to The Players golf tournament on Thursday.  We had a fantastic day, and got to see all of our favorite players.

Wedding Wednesday Continues: Entrances & First Dance

Happy Wedding Wednesday!!  It's been a pretty crazy week so far, over here; we're currently packing for our honeymoon while trying to get over a couple of sinus infections.  Last time I left off with wedding recaps, I shared the little details around our reception - now it's time to get the party started with the entrances.  While Mike chose all of the music for the ceremony (so far out of my league - haha), he didn't feel like he was "tuned-in" enough with pop music to make the entrance/dance choices, too.  Future brides, do you have any idea how many song lists there are for receptions?  Entrances, first dances, parent dances, cake cutting... the lists go on and on.  We had no idea where to start!  Luckily, we stole got a little help from my 2014 wedding buddy, Liz with the entrance song.  I had only heard Enrique Iglesias's "Finally Found You" once before (my entrance into Liz's wedding), and I fell in love with it!  It's the perfect upbeat love song for a wedding, so we used it for our parent/bridal party entrance song, too.

As always throughout the wedding, our flower girl rocked it, and our bridal party were hysterical on their way in (just another reason to make sure your girls and guys meet before the wedding - no awkward wedding moments here!).  But before all of that, my parents then Mike's dad and grandmother entered first, and they were cuter than ever.

For our own entrance, I chose two songs and made Mike make the final decision. (We are the most indecisive couple ever!)  The first was This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) by Natalie Cole, but he said that reminded him of the eHarmony commercials (and me of The Parent Trap), so we went with the other choice: Carl Carlton's Everlasting Love.  Truth be told, we did get both of these choices from one of those never-ending entrance song lists.  I can still remember the moment the door flung open to "open up your eyes, then you realize, here I stand with my everlasting love..."

We went right into our first dance, which luckily we also had some help with.  I struggled for weeks and weeks with our first dance song, and made the stress well-known at my office.  One day, my co-worker came in, so excited that she had heard the best song ever for us on the radio, and boy was she right!  These Are The Times To Remember by Billy Joel was the perfect love song for us: remembering to cherish every moment we spend together while also looking forward to the future, "so stay with me, baby, I've got plans for you!"  After a couple of minutes, our bridal party joined in dancing with us, and it was so special (and took all of the eyes off of us a little).

After a big group hug, we all found our seats, and it was time for speeches!  I'll be back in a couple of weeks with those!  Don't worry, I won't leave you hanging for Wedding Wednesday next week while we're on our honeymooon.  I have something special planned that I really think you'll enjoy!

Thanks so much for reading, and now it's your turn.  Share a wedding-inspired post with us!  Use the button, if you'd like, and please link back to my or Macy's blog so that others can join in Wedding Wednesday, too!

Weekend-y Things

This was the first weekend in a long time that Mike and I didn't have any plans.  It was just what we needed.  We did a lot of cooking (this, this, and these), golf-watching, and tanning.  I drove all of two times this weekend: once to golf on Friday and a second time for brunch with JillianCait, and Jessica at Five Loaves downtown.

Sitting by the pool all weekend, I finally had the opportunity to finish my most recent Blogging for Books read, Ruby.  To be honest, it took me a long time to get through this book.  I usually really enjoy books that take place in this timeframe, the mid-twentieth century, but this book was just so brutally honest and haunting that it took a while to immerse myself in the story.  The two main characters, Ephram and Ruby meet as young children, but their lives take very different paths, both lined with their share of despair.  The book follows Ruby's return to her East Texas hometown after living in New York City.  Her sanity unravels as she faces the secrets of her past, but Ephram never gives up on her, proving the healing power of love.  Ruby is definitely a valuable but demanding read; prepare yourself to spend some quality time with the book.

Saturday and Sunday views...
