An Afternoon at Wild Dunes

As many of y'all know, golf has always been my passion.  To be honest, it's what gave Mike and I the opportunity to move down to Charleston to continue my career in a place where I can play golf all 12 months of the year.  Blogging has brought a lot of fun opportunities into my life, and getting to play new courses is definitely one of them.  Wild Dunes Resort on Isle of Palms, one of Charleston's barrier islands, has beautiful accommodations, award-winning dining, and tons of outdoor activities including tennis, bike riding, paddle boarding, kayaking, and, of course, golf.  The resort offers two courses: the Harbor Course and the Links Course

Last weekend, Mike and I played the Links Course on a beautifully sunny (and hot!) day.  The Links Course hosts the practice facilities for both courses at the resort, including an irons-only driving range and practice green.
My look: hat (similar) ||| sunglasses ||| polo ||| skirt ||| golf shoes ||| socks
I was impressed with the variety of views and different scenery on each hole.  Being in the Lowcountry, you expect the salt marshes, turtles, birds, and palmettos we saw on the front nine, but making the turn onto the tenth hole, there was a surprising elevation changes that created beautiful views of the island from all angles.
The course is located on the northeast tip of Isle of Palms, so the seventeenth and eighteenth holes have amazing views of the Atlantic Ocean.
After we finished golf, we headed upstairs, through the clubhouse, into Huey's Southern Eats for a late lunch.  Named after an infamous goose on the island, Huey's cooks up delicious Southern staples and has a full bar.  Of course, we started with a couple of beers (they have a great local selection) and an order of hushpuppies.  Mike ordered a Huey's burger, and I tried the Huey's chopped salad with local fruit and a delicious Firefly Moonshine dressing.  Did I mention that they also have a full dessert menu?  After the couple next to us ordered the peanut butter pie, I obviously had to try it.  Not much of a peanut butter + chocolate fan, Mike finished his meal with a chocolate milkshake.  We were very happy with all of our food selections, and even if you're not golfing but find yourself at Wild Dunes, Huey's is definitely worth a stop!
Last summer, Mike and I played the other Wild Dunes course, the Harbor Course, and if you're a local, this is the place to be.  Wild Dunes offers a new “Friends of the Harbor” program to residents of Charleston, Dorchester, and Berkeley counties.  Friends of the Harbor is a VIP pass that offers golfers 18-hole rounds for just $44 each, all year long.  The annual membership is only $30 and also includes monthly offers and 50% off every fifth round!  The Harbor Course is definitely a challenging design with narrow fairways and water coming into play on almost every hole.  The back nine is even situated right along the Intracoastal Waterway.  Head over to my Instagram page to enter to win a free Friends of the Harbor membership!

Fashion Week(ending)

I hope everyone had a fun St. Patty's Day weekend (we celebrated St. Catty's Day at our house - haha!)!  For the second year, I had the opportunity to attend Lexus Charleston Fashion Week (here is my post from last year).  Seriously, what a blast!  It's so much fun to see emerging designers, a young model competition, and featured designers like Yigal Azrouel.  Below are my looks I shared on Instagram from Friday and Saturday nights:
I was really excited to style two new pairs of earrings from Piqued PR clients, Shiver & Duke and Brynn Hudson Jewelry.  You can shop both styles below:
Since it's been a while since I did a real life update, I thought I'd share a few more photos of recent happenings... first, the aftermath of Mike's birthday party last weekend.  Thanks to all of our friends who made it over to celebrate.
You might have seen my Instagram last week (thanks, Dunkin' Donuts!) of my new favorite coffee.  Dunkin' recently introduced Girl Scout Cookie flavored coffees available in everything hot to iced.  I am obsessed with the Thin Mints variety, and they also have caramel & coconut and peanut butter cookie.  They're available until May, so make sure you check them out!
And last but not least, a few new favorites from our neighborhood brewery, Charles Towne Fermentory.  They just released cans of a delicious peach and passionfruit gose - yum!

Relaxation on King Street

Y'all know how much I love my little city of Charleston.  I'm constantly finding new things to do, and I have a fantastic place to share today.  Tucked right in the middle of my favorite retail therapy is a boutique salon where I had the opportunity to enjoy another type of therapy: massage therapy at Lordis Loft.
A few weeks ago, Lordis Loft's King Street salon and spa opened their new location, just upstairs from their original space.  It's adorned with rustic brick walls, beautiful wood floors, and tons of natural light.  Walking up the stairs, I was greeted by their receptionist team and a shop filled with Aveda products.  Lordis Loft is the premiere Aveda hair and skin care salon in Charleston.  Even if you are not in the area, you can shop the wonderful line of Aveda products that connect beauty, well-being, and the environment here.
As I said, I went to Lordis Loft for a massage, specifically the Elemental Nature Massage.  To specialize my massage to my specific needs, I filled out a detailed consultation questionnaire before meeting my massage therapist. While the front of the salon, suited for all their hair salon procedures, is a lively and bustling space, a short walk brought us back to the serene massage room.
My massage therapist, Alexa, perfectly matched the massage to my request: stress-relief and relaxation.  She also found a fair share of tight muscles left over from my half marathon 10 days earlier!  The pressure was perfect, and her professionalism and confidence in her work was evident. In addition to the environmental massage, Lordis Loft also offers hot stone and deep tissue massages.
Leaving the massage, I felt so relaxed.  In addition to massages and your typical full range of salon hair services (also available at their West Ashley location), Lordis Loft also offers makeup applications and lessons, manicures and pedicures, waxing, and facials.
If you are in the Charleston area, I highly suggest a stop into Lordis Loft, as you stroll down King Street!

Six on Monday with Amanda

How was your weekend?  Mine was great - my mom is in town through tonight, so we are having so much doing touristy things with her.  Today I'm so excited for Amanda to take over the blog!  If you haven't clicked on her button on my sidebar, you definitely should!  She is a Jamberry consultant and has been so much fun to work with over the past few months!  She has definitely converted me into a Jamberry lover, and if you want to give these awesome nail designs a try for yourself, you should definitely stick around for the whole post ;)  Alright, here's Amanda:

1. How did you get started with Jamberry?

I was introduced to Jamberry by a close friend from high school. I thought the designs were pretty, but I was skeptical. When I received my Jams in the mail and was able to wear them for a solid week through diaper changes, laundry, cleaning, and tons of hand washing I was sold. Polish would have been done the day I painted them. Plus, I loved getting a 30% discount on cute nails!

2. What is your favorite design?

It's hard to narrow down my choices to just one design, but I would say one our Commitment to Charity wraps, Autism Awareness always gets pushed to the top of my list. Being the Mom of two amazing kids on the Autism Spectrum, I love that they are represented and I also love that Jamberry gives back $2 of every sale back to the Autism Society of America. This is such an important cause to me and I love being able to help support it.

3. Now about you: Tell us about yourself:
I was born and raised in the suburbs of our Nation's Capital, but now live in the Sunshine State. I have been married to my best friend for almost 7.5 years and we have 3 gorgeous children who are 5 years old, 2 years old, and one month old. I love Jesus, spending time with my family, football, reading, British things, all things geek, watching movies, sports, and laughing. Sadly, we have no pets right now, but I love Corgis.

4. What is one really cool thing about you?
I'm extraordinarily ordinary, so this is tough. If I didn't have the tendency to be shy, I could be a professional voice actor.

5. What's something no one else knows about you?
I wanted to be a famous singer growing up, but the thought of performing in front of people instantly makes me queasy. Being in the spotlight is not my thing.

6. What would you like my readers to know about you?
I can be pretty introverted, but I am one of the nicest people you will meet. I think this world could always use more kindness. I am not the best driver. I do not have a poker face and tend to be blunt. My kids mean the world to me. I have the attention span of a corn flake. One of my worst habits is procrastinating and every time I want to stop, I just tell myself that I can stop. My spirit animal is the Leslie Knope.

And now, Amanda is graciously giving away $25 to her Jamberry shop - that means you can treat yoself to some beautiful wraps!  Good luck!
