Wedding Wednesday: Ring In The New Year!

Welcome to another edition of Wedding Wednesday AND the last day of 2014!  Wow, has this year been one heck of a year.  Not only did we get married, but we also moved 1,000 miles down the coast and have had our share of adventures.  Today's WW inspiration comes from a wedding my sister-in-law went to a few years back.  It was a beautiful nighttime hotel wedding on New Year's Eve.  How fun would it be to get everyone you know together to not only celebrate your wedding but also ring in the new year?  ALSO, it's a great excuse for tons of gold and sparkle!

The Twelve Days Of...

Christmas. No, DRUNK.  The Twelve Days of Drunk, that's it!  I already recapped our Christmas, so here's vacation part 2:

This weekend, Mike’s immediate family, aunts, uncles, cousins… 16 of us total, rented a cabin together at Camp Calumet in Ossipee, New Hampshire.  We played tons of cards, went hiking, played broomball, and Mike and I even did a polar plunge (you can see what the lake usually looks like this time of year here – from last year’s visit) just because we could!  The weather was great and it was so nice to spend quality time with our family during what has become an annual trip

Today’s our last day up North!  On our way to do “Christmas” and Christmas dinner with my parents, we got to meet this little cutie, James!  Seriously, how sweet is he?!  Now we’re doing some typical Rhode Island hometown things before we head to the airport.
I swear he's yawning in the photo on the left, not crying or screaming ;)

And someone was NOT thrilled to get a Grumpy Cat for Christmas...

And the title, you ask?  Well, this was our first trip to see family since being married, so there was no way I was going to be asked if (or have anyone assume that) I was pregnant... so anytime I was offered a glass of wine or beer, I took it: hence, the 12 days of drunk.

DIY Glitter Flats

I love gold!  I finally get it.  It's taken me a while, but this silver jewelry-wearing girl finally jumped on the gold bandwagon.  Growing up, it just wasn't my style, and somehow that resonated through all of college.  Well now, call me Yukon Cornelius, my tastes have changed, I just love it all.
And, yes, that was necessary.  I decided a couple of weeks before the holidays that I really wanted some gold flats (I don't wear heels).  I kept looking online, but only found ones that were not sparkly enough, too expensive, or made for small children.  So, I decided to take one of my five pairs of black flats (who needs that many?!) and make my own.  How hard could it be, right?  Well, the result turned out pretty well, and I highly suggest you start making these tonight and wear them to your New Year's Eve party :)

All you need is a pair of flats (preferably made out of a pourous fabric, not any type of faux leather), Modge Podge, a sponge brush, glitter, and clear spray paint.
1. Paint a thick layer of Modge Podge on the flats and cover with glitter.
2. Once both shoes are done, bang them together to make sure you didn't miss any spots.  The Modge Podge will dry clear, so if you need to go back and touch up, it's not problem.  And, yes, you will look like that when you're done.
3. After a few hours of letting the shoes dry, put paper towels in them (to keep from spraying the inside) and coat the shoes in a layer of spray paint to lock in the glitter.
4.  After letting them dry for about 12 hours, knock them together to get off any remaining loose glitter and show them off!

Christmas Things

Who doesn't love a good ol' fashioned Christmas recap?!  Our first married one, at that!

1. Even living in South Carolina now, it's been so nice to be able to able to spend time with our family and enjoy our typical Saturday before Christmas party traditions with my college friends and Mike's best friend's family (with the best Christmas decorations EVER).  On top of that, we even got to be there the day one of my high school besties got engaged!!

2. Then, there was Christmas!  I put up a photo yesterday of our Charleston Christmas last Thursday before we left.  Christmas Eve was very low key: Christmas movies, hard cider.  I was charged with creating a new Christmas Eve tradition.  I had grand plans of going bowling or doing something crazy, but when the 24-hour bowling alley closed at 7:00pm on Christmas Eve, I gave up.  We ended up going to both church services, as always, and ordering Chinese food and playing cards with friends in between.  Even though it wasn't anything crazy, I love our new tradition, and I think it will definitely continue for years to come!

3. Christmas Day started off quietly with us and Mike's dad opening presents, then got much crazier with all of the cousins and family at Mike's uncle's house.  It was extra special this year that my parents came to their house as well, so we got to see both sides of the family together, since we won't actually be doing "Christmas" and dinner with them until Monday.  Probably the cutest part of the night was when Mike's cousin and my flower girl, Maya, asked if now that I'm married to Mike (he is also her godfather - she actually has 2 godfathers, instead of 1 of each haha), if that means I can be her godmother.  Seriously, y'all, I melted.  She is the cutest kid on the planet.

4. On top of that, there were the gifts.  T-Swift and Sara Bareilles CDs, a monogrammed vest and scarf from Mike that haven't been taken off in days (Husband did good looking at my Christmas list ;) ), Bluetooth speakers for our golf bags (everyone in SC listens to music while they play golf), and games to add to our collection (Anyone in Charleston games fans like us?!? We are desperately looking for a new "game night" group!).  We did our annual family grab bag with Mike's family, and my mom actually got my reindeer beer - she is way too excited to try the Palmetto Pale Ale.

5. Today is all about after-Christmas shopping (and spending the fantastic LL Bean gift card my father-in-law got me) as well as more time with friends!  Tomorrow we're off to New Hampshire for a winter family weekend like we did last year, and then we're back to RI for a couple of days before we head back to the warmth for New Year's Eve!

How was your Christmas??
