pinterest day 19: i am somebody

Follow Me on Pinterest

day 19: i am somebody from my "inspire" board

here is a sort of 2-parter or 2-boarder

i am somebody
&
bracelet stories

as some of you may know, i am very passionate about the invisible children.  i have written letters to congressmen, spread the message across social media, and purchased some items from them to continue to spread the word.

i am so happy, my package arrived today!  mike also ordered one, and his arrived last week, so i have been very envious.

i think mine took extra time because in addition to the action kit, i also purchased a bracelet story.  in addition to two handmade bracelets, it also includes a dvd about sunday.  you can read more about the holistic approach to providing sustainable economic growth in Uganda where my bracelets were made here (the last program).

i am so proud to wear this bracelet.

i will definitely find someone good to give the second one to soon

music monday

one day, matisyahu
sometimes i lay under the moon, and thank God i'm breathing,
then i pray don't take me soon, cause i am here for a reason

paradise, coldplay
and so lying underneath those stormy skies, she'd say,
'oh, i know the sun must set to rise"

when i think about #kony2012, i think about these two songs.  they are inspirational, upbeat, positive, and describe what the world should be. they have been on repeat at my desk for the past week or so, and i love them.

the last 48 hours

i have spent the last 48 hours learning and researching more about the invisible children and kony 2012.  i am more passionate than ever to help this cause.  i have linked the video on my facebook, tweeted about it, written letters to congressmen in rhode island and connecticut, and i hope this is only the beginning.

only fueling my passion to help, i have read the protests and sarcasm by plenty of objectors and am very disappointed by many of these outspoken americans.  many of them grew up in quaint new england towns with nuclear families, and have never left their little, suburban bubbles.  how can you, who were so lucky to be born where and when you were, speak so negatively of people who travel halfway across across the world to take action for the rights of children? joining kony 2012 groups to make fun of them is not acceptable. you are a human being; not accepting the cause and choosing to turn your head is one thing, but speaking out against people who are trying to help their fellow human beings is quite another.

i just don't get it.  if someone is trying to help a cause by spreading the word, acting, and reading about it, how could that be worthy of laughter? young americans are trying to educate themselves, and it makes me physically ill to think about the number of people who are so against this movement.

okay, there is my rant, from here on out, i will only speak positively of kony 2012 as i attempt to generate awareness.  however, i feel it was my right to acknowledge that not everyone feels the same way as me.

KONY 2012

today i have the day off from work, and was preparing a post with all of my current loves from the store target.  this afternoon, after seeing it all over the internet, i had the opportunity to finally watch invisible children's latest video.

if you have not, you should too.

i have signed up to receive a kony action pack and a bracelet story. i feel that this is a much better use of the money i was planning on spending in a much more frivolous way.

i hope you will be as affected as i was after watching.
