Leon's Fine Poultry and Oyster Shop

HAPPY FRIDAY!!! This weekend, Mike and I are going on a culinary tour of Upper King Street, so I thought I would share one of the places that's already one of my favorites way up on King: Leon's Oyster Shop.  Plus, it's one of my favorites for Happy Hour, so perfect for a Friday!

First, let me put this out there: oysters (and anything still sitting in a shell i.e. steamed clams) are the ONLY kind of seafood I don't like.  I think it's the slimyness or rawness.  I love fried clams as well as things I need to break out of shells myself like shrimp and crab, but oysters? Not so much.  HOWEVER, even if you don't like oysters, Leon's is definitely still the place for you.  Luckily, it's right across the street from where we have our board meetings, so we've been known to migrate over there before after a meeting for a couple beers and some snacks.  Their fried chicken is also amazing!  Did I mention you can get "cheap beer" in tiny 6 packs?  Yup, this girl's "expensive" tastes are sold!

some of my favorites: shrimp toast, hush puppies, and avocado on sourdough

Favorites in my Charleston Chowdown series: ZiaFive LoavesDeSano PizzaMelvin's Barbecue, Charleston Donuts, and Cory's Grilled Cheese

That place looks fantastic! And I do love oysters (though raw is not my preference...oysters rockefeller is bomb though!) so it's just my kinda place. ;) Have fun!

Maybe I will get to try this place sometime - Andrew for the oysters and me for the fried chicken. You make it sound delicious!

I don't like oysters either! We must have similar taste in food :) If you guys like culinary tours and ever come to Rome let me know, my sister works for a great food tourism company here that does culinary tours in Trastevere and Testaccio (two of the coolest neighborhoods in the city :D)
