Exploring: Charleston Tea Plantation

This weekend when Mike's dad was here, one of our many stops was the the Charleston Tea Plantation.  Who would have thought the only tea garden in the U.S. is just right down the road?  Located on Wadmalaw Island, the plantation is comprised of 127 acres of Camellia Sinensis tea plants used to make green and black tea and is the home of American Classic Tea (now a brand of Bigelow Tea).  At the plantation, we toured the factory, tasted tons of different teas, and went on a trolley tour all around the grounds.  It was seriously awesome and is a beautiful place!  So far, this has been one of my absolute favorite Charleston adventures.
Yummm - so many tastings!  I was so hyped up on caffeine by the time we left.
Greenhouse at the back of the plantation where they grow new tea plants.
Of course, we left with tons of loose leaf tea to try: peach, Governor Grey (haha we don't have Earls in the U.S.), and raspberry!

that is so interesting that it is the only one! I started drinking a cup of tea in the afternoons when Kev was deployed (needed that extra caffine to get through the day and don't drink soda!) so I definitely have a new appreciation for it. Ill need to see if I can order some from there!

Oh I totally wanted to visit when we were in Charleston last summer but we never made it there. We had a little too much vodka at Firefly that day...ha! I LOVE tea though, so I'll have to make sure to visit next time we are in Charleston.

Keith and I are totally considering staying in the states this summer and traveling to Myrtle Beach, which would fly us into Charleston to explore so I'm totally putting this on my maybe list. I've been to Charleston years ago but it was when I was having surgery at MUSC (awesome hospital system btw) so while I couldn't have a lot of fun, I did as much as I could with the market, Folly Beach but would love to go when I can actually enjoy stuff. Keith has never been. You should totally make a list of things you've discovered so I can look into them more :)

This is really cool! We didn't make it over there (or to Firefly, sadly) on our trip to Charleston.
