2013 MLB All Star Game

The Major League Baseball All Star Game is a BIG DEAL in my little family.  Like seriously.  You know how people have Super Bowl parties?  We always had ASG parties.  ALL the fixin's.  Don't even get me started on the Home Run Derby the night before!  That's like New Years Eve.  The All Star Game is a 2-day affair, for sure.  One of my favorite parts?  Getting an All-Star jersey.  My first was in 1999, when my dad bought me a Derek Jeter jersey from the ASG at Fenway.  Since then, almost every year I've bought a jersey.  Most of them were Jeter [in case you don't know, I might be the biggest DJ fan in the world], a few misguided teenage years in the middle were Alfonso Soriano, but about 5 years ago, I switched back to Jeter jerseys.  I don't wear the jerseys that often, but every year when we go to Cooperstown, NY for Baseball Hall of Fame Induction [that's another story for another week... but I've been to every HOF Induction since I was born], I wear one every. single. day.  Don't believe me?  Well, the following photos from the past 8 years or so will prove my point, and if that's not enough, I'm known in Cooperstown as "Jeter."  True story.

Holy awk teen years

Just getting some ice cream with Goose Gossage

[yeah, I know these two are the same, but I like them both!]

You know it's true love when I let Mike wear my first ever ASG jersey - the 1999 Fenway game vest.  TRUE LOVE.

Now onto last night's game: can we talk about how I almost cried through the whole thing? It was like a huge tribute to Mariano Rivera.  Even when they introduced the lineup before the game, everyone cheered and he just looked so happy and in awe.  And then his locker room speech?  So cool, I love how much more he's opening up and becoming animated in his final season.  I was so happy he had a chance to get into the game.  AND MVP!!!  I love him because of the amazing work he does and because of how much he is respected by every single team in the league.  I can't imagine next year without him.  And I'll let you guess whose jersey I bought last week when they went on sale...... sadly, DJ was not an All Star this year, so yes, I bought a Mo jersey for his last year - boy am I so glad I did!  I can't wait to wear it this year for HOF Induction in a couple weeks!

Also, I just found this AWESOME link up that Sarah over at Venus Trapped in Mars hosts every Friday: Fan Friday, so YES, I am reusing this post for Friday. Sorrynotsorry.  So, expect more baseball/sports posts soon :)

One last thing, shameless plug - you know that guy who started the game for the National League?  Yeah, Matt and I have known each other since we were babies.  Our dads coached together forever, and he's from the town next to my hometown.  I think it's cool ;)  Did you see this on Jimmy Fallon a couple nights back?  This is HYSTERICAL:

Woohoo! I was watching the homerun derby and All Star Game too! Although we weren't awesome with a party like you, I think I need to get on that next year! I was really excited to see 5 Orioles make it this year... and we're really proud of Chris Davis here in Maryland.

Love all your pictures from over the years!

So, what advice would you give to Matt Harvey? That was hilarious.

That is awesome that you have a tradition like this. I am not really into baseball, but I completely get it because I am the same way when it comes to football!
