Meg Taylor, Amateur Tour Guide

This weekend I definitely earned that title.  My bestie, Amanda, was here from Friday to this morning [ :( ] and now that we've been here for 4 months, I think we finally have our bearings enough to really be a good tour guide.  We tried to show her a little bit of everything Charleston has to offer, while also just simply spending time together.  Here's what we did...

Friday: After picking up Amanda, we grabbed some Zia for dinner and Krispy Kreme for dessert.  We debated going out for drinks but opted for ciders at home and game night... we are mature adults.

Saturday: Spending the whole weekend doing everything "Charleston" meant that our first stop was definitely Boone Hall Plantation.  We walked around the grounds and gardens, toured the house, and [my personal favorite] played with the butterflies in the Butterfly Pavilion.  After that, we drove downtown and walked around Market Street and the waterfront.  The night ended with gigantic sundaes from Ye Old Fashioned.

Sunday: Since we'd been doing so much eating, we decided to do something active and went back to show Amanda one of our favorite places, Trophy Lakes on John's Island for disc golf.  After 18 holes of golf and a 4-mile walk, fancied ourselves up a bit and headed out to Kiawah for drinks and Crispy Shrimp at the Ocean Course's Ryder Cup Bar.  Our full bellies went back to the apartment for some football and afternoon relaxation.  But we weren't done yet - after a nice nap, we explored another favorite place: Rat Island and Lighthouse Inlet out on Folly Beach.  It's so beautiful over there in the evening, but holy cow do the bugs come out after the sun sets!
Who says SC doesn't have foliage?!? Kiiiiidding.

Beautiful lunch view at Kiawah

Lighthouse Inlet: Check out that bird that perched on Mike's foot!  It was hopping around, eating mosquitos out of the air, and decided to take a break and hang out with us!

Monday: I had to teach in the evening, so Mike and Amanda came to Patriots Point with me to hit some golf balls.  She had never played before and did super well!  They also made me a birthday cake with my Aunt Zena's recipe [thanks, blog!].  They replaced the regular cocoa powder with Special Dark cocoa powder and it was SO GOOD.  We obviously broke out the wedding cake utensils again and dug in.  We finished the night with some Uno and Halloween tv drinking games.

What a fun weekend! I love love love Folly Beach - if I can convince Keith to go somewhere other than all inclusive, I'd love to get him out in your area :)
