Southern Barbecue: Melvin's

When I think of Southern food, I obviously first think of shrimp and grits biscuits and gravy and Waffle House, but the most quintessential Southern food I was most looking forward to moving down here was the barbecue!  I found Melvin's when I was living in Mount Pleasant for a few weeks, and it is absolutely amazing.

It's a mustard-based barbecue and I haven't found something I don't like.  The pulled pork, barbecue chicken, burgers [Emeril called it the best ever!!] - all of the best, and just like it should be at any Southern barbecue joint, the cornbread rocks your socks off.  Their sweet tea is delicious, too!  Last but not least, they have four different sauces on each table that are sure to make any barbecue fan happy!

There is a commercial going on saying it isn't real BBQ unless there is a pig on the sign. So I guess this is really BBQ! ;) Everything looks really good, and the choice of sauces is a great idea.

BBQ is my favorite and I love trying it in different regions. We usually try to find at least one BBQ place everywhere we visit. We did try a BBQ place in downtown Charleston, but I'll have to add this to the list next time we visit. I don't know if I've tried a mustard-based BBQ yet. I feel like I've tried the tomato and the vinegar based, so definitly need to try this :)
