DIY Paint Chip Advent Calendar

If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen that the Christmas craft nesting bug hit me hard on Wednesday.  I went to Michael's, Jo Ann's, Target, TJ Maxx, Home Depot, and Publix all after work on a supply-seeking mission.  I came home and kind of felt like I was unloading the "Barney Bag."  Anyone remember it?  A bunch of seemingly unrelated stuff that would all fit together for a project, well, that's what I had, except, I have about four projects in mind.  That night, I got to work and made my first which combines two of my favorite things.  You get one guess:
Yup, advent calendars and paint chip garlands.  I obviously already made a garland for Christmas (and Halloween, and Easter...) last year, so I thought I'd put a new spin on it.  Plus, come on, I couldn't go a year without making one, I had to keep my fans happy! haha

The advent calendar at my parents' house was always my favorite decoration growing up, and flipping over the next number was the first thing I did every morning each December.  We have two advent calendars in our apartment, so what's one more?!  Aside from the paint chips from Home Depot, I also bought this adorable mini Fair Isle stocking from Target, some glitter from Jo Ann's, and mini clothespins like these from Michael's.  I already had Elmer's glue, twine, and scissors.
Now here's how you make it:

1. Cut a pattern.  I chose a tree to go with my stocking design.  Cut each paint chip to match the pattern.  As a different twist, each time I cut a piece, I changed the direction a little so that the lines on the paint chips were all going in different directions.
2. With the Elmer's glue, write a number (1-25) on each of the trees and cover in glitter.  Let dry.
3. Find a spot in your home to hang the twine, clothespins, and mini stocking.
4. Stuff all of the dry trees in your stocking in order of day and pull one out each day to add to your advent calendar.

And on Christmas, it'll look like this!

That is fantastic!!! I love how you cut them where the stripes are different.
Watch out Home Depot & Lowe's... going to be missing all the green & red sample cards during Christmas :)

So cute! And I know they're free but is it weird that I would feel like I was stealing if I walked out of Home Depot with a huge stack of paint chips? Haha.
