Summertime Host Gift Idea: DIY Beer Caddy

The unofficial start of summer is upon us! Who else was at a barbecue this weekend? I know we'll all be out and about this summer, and if you're in need of the perfect summer host/hostess gift, I have a great idea for you: a DIY Beer Caddy.
Not only do I love this gift because it serves as a bottle opener (how many times have you been to someone's house and not been able to find an opener?), but it's also a great way to bring your favorite beer to the party.  I created my own mix-six pack with Modelo Especial and Modelo Negra.  This way, guests can have their choice of style.
I made my beer caddy using an old utensil holder, bottle opener (purchased at my local home improvement store), pliers, sandpaper, phillips-head screwdriver, paint, and paintbrush.
Here's how you do it:
1. Remove the dividers from the utensil holder using the pliers.
2. Sand the inside edges where the dividers were and make sure there are no nails remaining.  If there are, removing them with the pliers, as well.
3. Paint the inside and outside of the beer caddy with your choice of colors.  I always use 2-3 colors of paint (one bright and a couple neutral) to bring more dimension and variety to the piece.
4. Using the screwdriver, attach the bottle opener to the outside of the beer caddy.
5. Fill the caddy with your favorite beers, such as Modelo, and head off to party!
This summer, Modelo is all about soccer!  Grab a pack before to your own barbecue or soccer-viewing party.
Are you a soccer fan?  What's your favorite summertime hostess gift?
