Wedding Wednesday: The Cake

Not going to lie, the cake was definitely one of my favorite parts of our wedding.  Our vendor was The Icing On The Cake, and they were amazing.  One of my favorite aspects of our cake was the design.  Because both TIOTC and our florist, Frugal Flower, were preferred vendors at our venue and had worked together in the past, the ladies arranged the decorations and flowers on the cake together.  That also meant it was one less thing for me to worry about!  We did a cake tasting with my parents and Mike's best man a few months before the wedding and had such a hard time narrowing down flavors.  We decided that each tier would have a different flavor: lemon cake with white buttercream and raspberry, chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream, vanilla cake with strawberry mousse, and a mystery top tier.  We let our baker choose the top tier for us, so when we unfreeze it on our first anniversary, we will have a surprise cake.  Knowing that doesn't always turn out so well, they also gave us a coupon for a free anniversary cake, just for sending them a photo of our cake, during the wedding.  So either way, we will be eating delicious cake in September!
We cut our first slice to Marvin Gaye's "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)."
We decided not to smush cake on each other, but still had a little bit of fun!
In addition to the cake, we also had a beautiful dessert bar, filled with pastries, cookies, and fresh fruit.
Now, it's your turn - share your own engagement/ wedding/ honeymoon/ anniversary post with me and Macy below.  Please link back to one of our pages so that others can find us and join in the Wedding Wednesday fun!

Your cake is fabulous! I love the flowers on it, we did that too! Cake is so important, we did a lot to ensure ours and our cupcakes tasted delicious. There is nothing worst than bad cake and sadly I had it at a wedding it was dry and dirt. blech.

We cut to "sugar sugar" and I kid you not, the piece we fed to each other was the only piece we got as the rest of ours was eaten up. I love the colors on your cake too!

Your cake is beautiful! I love the flowers. We had an anniversary cake made that we froze last year because we needed all the tiers to our cake. Our cake person wrapped it up, and we opened it this weekend and it was actually really good. That's a great idea though to include a coupon for an anniversary cake in case the one you froze doesn't turn out very well. Can't wait to hear what flavor it is.

Love this! Our cake place was pretty amazing. They don't do the frozen cakes, because they say "it never tastes that good". I am going to get a tiny tier made for our first anniversary. Looking forward to the flavor we didn't pick, carrot cake:) Can't wait to hear what your surprise is!

I love seeing cakes. Every one is so different & says a lot about the personality of bride & groom. & I LOVE when people don't smoosh. Why mess up all the beauty of the day? It's not fun to me at all. What you did was cute - just enough for smiles - not a whole make up re-do needed.

Very pretty cake! I can't wait for some more yummy cake on our one year either :) We also didn't smush each other with cake and I am so glad. It was funny the first 5 times I saw it happen but it's just so messy and I'm just not a fan.

Your cake is so pretty! I love the idea of different flavors for each tier. That sounds like something I would do because I doubt I'd be able to decide on just one!

I love your cake- every time you've posted pictures of it I've thought that! Is the anniversary cake turning out bad really a thing? I hope mine's good because I've been looking forward to it- every time I open the freezer I have to resist =)

Gorgeous cake, they did a fabulous job! We didn't smash it in each other's faces either, we didn't want to get it all over us!

Your cake was so beautiful! We fed each other with forks, and the cake was not cooperative.

I love that talk had a different flavor for each tier. Too cool. And the idea of having a mystery top tier is genius, and so incredibly awesome of th to let you get another one of you don't like it.
