Wedding Wednesday: Family

Family is so important to both of us.  Even though mine is (no joke) about a fifth of the size of Mike's, we wanted to make sure both sides of the family were included throughout our wedding.  His sister was my Maid of Honor, his goddaughter was our flower girl, we both had cousins read during our ceremony, my godmother and his godfather brought up the gifts, and my cousin was one of the communion ministers.  Also important to us were group family photos at the reception, in addition to our immediate family photos after the ceremony.

We also did the traditional family dances, after we cut our cake.  My dad and I danced to "My Girl" by The Temptations.  We wanted something upbeat, and I am definitely "his girl," so it was perfect.  Halfway through the song, he motioned over to my mom to join in with the dance, and I'm so glad he did.  I'm an only child, so getting to dance with both my parents was really special.

After our dance was over, it was Mike's turn.  We lost Mike's mom thirteen months before the wedding.  It was really important for us to honor her, and Mike decided that he wanted to dance with his sister, in honor of her and all of the important women in their lives.  They danced to James Taylor's "You've Got A Friend."  Mike and Laura's dad joined in with them for a part of the dance, and it was a beautiful tribute to their mom.
After our family dances, it was time to officially open the dance floor.  I'll be back next week with some of my favorite dancing photos as I begin to wrap up my Wedding Wednesday posts.

Now, it's your turn - share your own engagement/ wedding/ honeymoon/ anniversary post with me and Macy below.  Please link back to one of our pages so that others can find us and join in the Wedding Wednesday fun!

Love it all... love you dancing with both parents... & love the sister dance.
My best friend passed away before her sons wedding - he danced the mother dance with his mother in law & then surprised me & took me on the floor to dance the other half of the song... I cried like a baby.

Family was important for us to have in the wedding as well. We made some friends mad because of this decision but you know what, its our wedding and I have never been the girl who said "if I'm in your wedding you'll be in mine".
