Charleston Eats: Callie's Hot Little Biscuit Review

Let's be honest: I'm a little too giddy about today's post.  I don't remember how we first found Callie's Hot Little Biscuit, but I do know it's become a weekly staple for Mike and me.  Almost every Saturday, we start off our morning with Callie's biscuits and my favorite mint iced tea and spend the next couple hours walking around the Farmer's Market, waterfront, and looking at all of my favorite houses.
Hot Little Biscuit is the cutest (and my favorite) little bakery in Charleston.  Located at 476 1/2 King Street (yes, you read that right), the whole space is only 8 feet wide.  Not only do they serve breakfast and lunch seven days a week, they are also open late night (10 pm-2 am) on Friday and Saturday nights.  They have the best location, right in the middle of all my favorite Upper King bars, so you know nights out (like my birthday) always include Callie's.
As you walk in, you're greeted by one of the friendly Callie's bakers at the counter, and examples of all their standard biscuits are laid out in front of you.  Usually, you can also watch someone hand mixing biscuit dough, but if not, the whole process is showcased on the wall.
They always have a standard menu of biscuits, grits, pimento cheese sandwiches, and accoutrements, but my favorite items usually come from the specials board.  They have a long roll of recycled paper hanging on the wall where, each day, they write their specials: bacon, egg, & cheese, shrimp salad, peaches and cream, and strawberry shortcake all on their delicious biscuits are some of my favorites.  Late night, I'm all about the chicken on a biscuit made with their neighbor, The Rarebit's amazing fried chicken.
I could go on and on, but I'll just leave these here for your mouth water...
Don't live in Charleston?  Callie's Charleston Biscuits has an awesome online store where you can buy everything from frozen biscuits to gift packages and pimento cheese to Callie's merchandise and cookbooks.
Next time you're in Charleston, call me up and I'll happily meet you at HLB!
