manicures or polish?

Another scheduled post... I got this manicure before going to Florida, and it really got me thinking - am I wasting my money?

I've been getting weekly manicures... well almost weekly... since the summer.  And now, after getting almost every manicure color under the sun, I'm trying to figure out - is it worth it?  With tip, I spend $16 each time I get a manicure.  One of the major reasons I love it, is because most of time I go with my roommate.  We are the only two girls in our house and we love our "girl time" away from the normal football, beer, and yelling haha.  Alright, here we go - tell me what you think.

Pros and Cons of Manicures:

Pros:
- time to relax
- they're way better at painting my nails than me
- that lovely hand wax
- the hand and back massages
- girl time with my roommate
- freedom of choosing any color of the rainbow each week
- if I don't go each week, I'm too lazy to take off my polish and my nails look awful

Cons:
- doesn't last more than a week
- I only get to use each polish color once
- each week costs double of what one bottle of OPI polish would cost

Do you get manicures? What do you think I should do?

I usually get my nails done once in a blue moon and the reasons being because they never last more than a week.$16 dollars a week can add up to $64 a month and then $768 a year! When I look at it that way, I think you should hold off on the manicures and only get them done on special occasions or as a treat :)

I don't get manicures...because the only place I know of in town that does them charges quite a bit more than $16 for a manicure. I just dont' paint my nails that often...and when I do, I use Seche Vite top coat, which is rock hard and lasts forever. I've been debating getting one of those gel kit things too...

I change my polish 2 or 3 times a week so manicures aren't worth it for me. But I do love a good pedicure!

I've only ever gotten a manicure twice in my entire life. Can you believe that? Haha. The first time was for my senior prom. I got the gel fake nails. I didn't know how to take them off so I ended up ripping them off. Such a bad mistake and it hurt so much. The 2nd time was for a bridal shower activity. I got my nail and toes done. It was super fun. Great way to spend time with the girls.

I agree on your pros. I wouldn't do it often because it's so expensive, and with practice I'm actually pretty good at applying nail polish on myself. So I just have a ridiculously huge collection at home and I switch it up about twice a week.

I used to go fairly often myself, but decided that I didn't really need to. I would recommend investing in a few good polishes (essie, OPI) that you really like, maybe get an actual manicure once a month and just do your own filing/ polish changes in between. I find that my nails and cuticles stay looking pretty good for a few weeks at a time..
